Our Quail:

We have three different colors of jumbo quail which are kept in separate pens to ensure they hatch true.

Jumbo Brown (aka Pharaoh or Wild)

Adult and 2 week old brown quail
adult 2 weeks
  • Feather Sexable at 3 weeks: Yes
  • Hen weight at 10 weeks: 13-15 ounces
  • Egg weight: 13-16 grams

Notes: These tend to be slightly larger than the other two colors but egg size is virtually the same.

Jumbo Red (aka Egyptian or Roux)

Red hen, rooster and 2 week old
hen rooster 2 weeks
  • Feather Sexable at 3 weeks: Yes
  • Hen weight at 10 weeks: 12-14 ounces
  • Egg weight: 13-16 grams

Notes: These are more of a golden brown color than red but are called the redheads of the quail family since they carry the “roux” gene. The interesting thing about breeding these red roosters with brown hens is that you can hatch “sex-link” chicks. On the day they hatch, you can tell which chicks are hens (they will be golden or light red) and which are roosters (they’ll be dark brown). Unfortunately, we don’t have these sex-link hatching eggs available for sale yet but hope to in the future.

Jumbo White (aka Texas A&M or English White)

Adult and 2 week old white quail
adult 2 weeks
  • Feather Sexable at 3 weeks: No
  • Hen weight at 10 weeks: 12-14 ounces
  • Egg weight: 13-16 grams

Notes: These can be all white but most have a dark spot on the top of their head and sometimes a spot on their back as well.
